Final Rochester Mini Maker Faire Poster-page-0

I’m often asked, what is a Mini Maker Faire?  To which I respond, a small version of a Maker Faire.  Then I’m asked what is a Maker Faire?

Make describes a Maker Faire:

“In its simplest form, Maker Faire creates opportunities for conversations with Makers. Tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators, tinkerers, hobbyists, engineers, science clubs, authors, artists, students, and entrepreneurs all come together to show their projects and to talk about what they have learned. It is a community-based learning event that inspires everyone to become a maker, and connect with people and projects in their local community. Yet, Maker Faire is a “fair” — fun, engaging, and exciting.

It is a special experience, but the fundamental design of the event is one that can be reproduced almost anywhere. ”  (http://makerfaire.com/mini/)

A Maker Faire is NOT a trade show.  It is not simply a craft bizarre where you purchase items others have made.  A Maker Faire is a truly interactive family oriented experience that celebrates all things creative.  Some useful, others not so much.  Some truly beautiful and others truly bizarre.  Regardless all if it can be educational, inspirational, uplifting, and overwhelming to the senses all at the same time.

When I took my family to our first Mini Maker Faire Experience in Buffalo this past March, I was hooked.  Not only was it an experience for me, but just watching the joy and wonder on the faces of my children made it an experience that mere words cannot do justice.  Take a look at some of the photos from Buffalo Mini Maker Faire that occurred this past March:  https://www.facebook.com/BuffaloMiniMakerFaire/photos_stream?tab=photos_stream

The only difference is that for the Rochester Mini Maker Faire . . we want you to answer our call for makers.  We want to celebrate what you have been creating be it dance arts, robotics, glass blowing, wood carving, and more.  Come share your passion and knowledge.  Create a hands on experience or demonstration to enrich the Rochester Community. http://makerfairerochester.com/call-for-makers/

Here are some short videos of yet other Maker Faires just to give an idea of some of the things you may find at a Maker Faire starting with a longer video about the Buffalo Mini Maker Faire.

Now on to other Maker Faires.

Calling all Makers for the Rochester Mini Maker Faire! What is a Maker you ask? Anyone who thinks, imagines, and creates. You are a Maker and it doesn’t matter if you create arts and crafts out of new and used materials, the latest in walking robots, or create music and dance arts. Share your Maker know-how and enthusiasm!  We’re especially interested in interactive and hands-on opportunities for attendees.

We have rooms for Maker talks, a stage for robotics demonstrations and artistic performances, and we have space for dozens and dozens of Maker booths. The Rochester Mini Maker Faire will be held on Saturday November 22nd, 2014 at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center.
