Pysanky (Ukrainian eggs) are part of the tradition in Ukraine which started thousands of years ago that has been passed on through the generations. Each egg is decorated by hand using an age-old, wax-resist method of dying.
Linda Bowers has been decorating eggs for over 25 years. Her first encounter with egg decorating was when her great aunt gave her simple hand painted hard-boiled eggs at Easter when she was small. After completing a Ukrainian egg decorating class through the Rochester Museum and Science Center as an adult, Linda found the artform very intriguing because of the unlimited pattern and color combinations. Although she is not Ukrainian, she thoroughly enjoys creating both traditional and nontraditional eggs. Her passion has blossomed into her hand-crafted business Just Eggsquisite. Linda’s canvas has ranged in size from the tiny parakeet to the grand ostrich egg. Decorating techniques have included wax resist (pysanky), scratch, carving, acid etching, and jewel box creations. Linda enjoys sharing her love for egg decorating and experience with others and teaches classes at local libraries, the Rochester Brainery, and at the PysankyUSA Retreat in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. She also offers private lessons in her home.
