Labyrinth Landscapes by Karin R. Staples

Karin Staples
Karin R. Staples is a native Rochestarian, and self proclaimed “hobby artist” has actually had shows at the CWC Gallery and at the Rochester Memorial Art Gallery. She has participated in ARTWalk, Artist Row at the Rochester Public Market, ArtAwake, Rochester Mini Maker Faire, Barnes & Noble Maker Faire, Rochester Artisan's Blue's Event, Rochester MakerSpace's Sunday Artists & Makers Expo (SAME), Wall Art for a Purpose, Finger Lakes Gallery & Frame "Fresh Ideas" show, Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester's ArtRageous Affair and the NYS Fair. Her favored medium is acrylic paints done in the monochromatic style for Finger Lakes landscape paintings. Recently she has been doing more faith based creations and meditative labyrinths. Her scholastic training was throughout grade school and into college. Her favorite instructor is the incomparable Mr. Thomas O’Brien. She then had a decade or so period that was focused on work and everyday life. But in the past ten years she has renewed her passion for painting and multi-media arts. When a piece sells she generally also tithes to a related group that hosted or inspired the piece of art. She also does commission work and lessons by request. Karin loves being a part of the maker community and participating in maker faires. Interacting with the public while live painting is exhilarating. Fielding questions and reactions influences what she paints at the time and also future pieces. Sharing knowledge on the fly hopefully will inspire people to get out of the basement and into the community as well. Being on the Rochester MakerSpace Board has helped her achieve this.

What inspired you to make this project?
You did. My painting has been evolving from simple “Monochromatics Made Amazing” to “Illustrating Life’s Faith Moments” to “Labyrinths Landscapes”. Each year the responses of the crowd has influenced what I would produce the following year. Two years ago I had more questions about my labyrinths than I did about the “Illustrating Life’s Faith Moments” aspect of my booth. So I switched my concentration. I also love sharing what techniques can be used to meditate with the paintings.
